I could hardly wait for 3 hours, let alone 3 days, or 3 weeks.
Being diagnosed with breast cancer was a sudden and rude awakening for me, and my husband, but getting the results of my core biopsy within hours -- instead of days or weeks – meant the world to us. We met with my surgeon (Dr. Dave McCready) the same day, discussed the surgical options, and immediately started preparing for what the next 12 months would bring.
Knowing what I know now – that the average wait time for biopsy results is over 5 weeks – makes me shudder at the thought that I could have waited (and waited) to find out if I had breast cancer.
The wait for my results felt like a very, very long time. A scant 3-hour wait felt like days had elapsed. Thankfully, I was one of the lucky ones to be referred to the Rapid Diagnostic Clinic at The Princess Margaret Hospital where 3 hours doesn’t turn into 3 weeks.
